Banyule Award for Works on Paper 2021
My drawing Cadence (together and apart) was a finalist in the Banyule Award for Works on Paper in 2021.
During the series of covid lockdowns in Melbourne there was a sense of the world really closing in and narrowing down. During the severest restrictions, the only time outside was limited to one hour and a 5km radius.
Living near Darebin Creek was a saving grace during this period of time.
Walking down at the creek with our dog, being immersed in the patterns, colours, textures of nature brought me back to myself, and allowed a feeling of safety and relief in my body.
This was one of a series of multi-panel drawings I completed during this period, working at my kitchen table for hours at a time, listening to podcasts to help me connect to the outside world.
